Map views courtesy Google Maps street level view which is looking west on Park Avenue at Vernon Street intersection. The school location would have been about were the large brick residence is on the left of the view. Approximate location is Google Earth confirmed; 43°12'37.77"N 78°28'31.84"W.
Editor's Note: 1860 and later 1800's maps show Park Avenue as a wide public space between Main and Vernon Streets. That original space today would be between the residents' side walks which are some distance from the curbs on that section of Park Avenue. In the later 1800's maps that area was shown as a park. Therefore, the school would have approximately stood where the large brick residence at 8 Park Avenue is located at the SW corner of Park Avenue and Vernon Street.

This cobblestone school house known as District No. 1 was built in the village of Middleport was built in 1846. A second story was added in 1870. Additions came later and it became the local high school. It was destroyed by fire on February 23, 1910. Cobblestone construction resembles that of the nearby Universalist Church at the corner of Park and Vernon streets.
